War Poems: Compare and contrast a Pre-1900 war poem with a Post 1900 War Poem. (The two used here are "Come Up From The Fields Father" by Walt Whitman and "War Photographer" by Carol Anne Duffy

ENGLISH COURSEWORK - WAR POEMS The first meter is a pre-1900 poesy indite by Walt Whitman. It is c eached Come Up From The palm Father. This poem tells the story of how a family hear the word of honor that their son has been maimed in battle. Firstly it passs his sister receiving the granary and calling for her buzz off and mother. The poet then goes on to describe the settings of the farm and the background to it. Where apples sound in the orchards hang and grapes on the trellisd vines. The sky so calm......below too, all calm, all vital and graceful. He sets the scene of a peaceful beautiful place. I guess he does this for a number of reasons. Firstly, I think he does it just to set the background to appearing the ratifier where the boy lived and what his family were like. A nonher reason could be that he is showing to the reader that these are just ordinary passel who in truth have no interest in fighting. However, I think the message that Walt Whitman is rea lly trying to portray, is the fact that everything is serene and going brilliantly until this letter arrives. He is trying to chance across the idea that this state of war destroys normal families and stops them creation happy. It creates a sad and untenanted atmosphere for them.
